SOLAR PANELS

WHAT ARE THEY?

Photovoltaic (PV) cells are used in solar panels to convert sunlight into electricity. This electricity can then be connected to the main energy supply in your home. Despite their futuristic appearance, solar technology is quite old; yet, while the fundamentals remain the same, solar panel efficiency has substantially improved in recent years.

HOW DO THEY WORK?

As previously stated, photovoltaic (PV) cells are used to convert sunlight into electricity. Photovoltaic (PV) cells convert sunlight into electricity and are used to make an electrical alternative to power. Any appliances that are currently in use in your home will be powered by the electricity generated by your solar panels. Any electricity that is not consumed is transmitted back to the grid, sending money to your pocket!

HOW LONG DO THEY LAST?

Solar panels have a 25-year to 35-year life expectancy. For string inverters, the inverter – the piece of equipment that transforms the Direct Current produced by the panels to the Alternating Current on which the grid operates – needs to be replaced every 12 to 15 years. However, SolarZone does not provide a replacement solution for our inverters with a 25-year warranty.

HOW DO I KNOW I'M MAKING USE OF SOLAR ENERGY?

You won't notice the difference between using your free electricity and utilizing grid electricity, and you won't even notice the shift. When solar power is available, your system should automatically switch over if your panels are properly mounted.

HOW CAN I MAKE THE MOST OF MY SOLAR PANELS' FREE ELECTRICITY?

To ensure that you make the most of the free electricity generated by your solar panels, aim to consume more electricity throughout the day when your panels are producing electricity.

CAN I USE A SOLAR PANEL SYSTEM WITH MY CURRENT GAS AND ELECTRICITY SUPPLIER?

If you have a gas company, nothing is going to change. You have no choice but to continue with Electric Coop or CoServ if you are a member. However, if you live in the Oncor service area, we strongly advise you to switch to Green Mountain Energy as your retail electric provider.
